From the Families We Work With

NW

Nipa Wattana

Bangkok, Daughter

"We placed my mother at Solace Grove after she spent three weeks in hospital following a fall. The care coordinator, Malee, was thorough in getting to know my mother's preferences within the first few days. The updates we received were honest and detailed β€” including one instance where my mother had a difficult afternoon, which I appreciated knowing about rather than hearing only the positives."

Prayoon Thiraphat

Nonthaburi, Son

"My father did the Day Programme for about four months. He is quite reserved by nature, and I was unsure whether he would settle. Within the second week he had started to look forward to going. The staff are calm, unhurried people β€” which matters a lot for someone who becomes anxious if things feel rushed. The transport arrangement from nearby also made a practical difference."

Suchada Rungrot

Lak Si, Daughter-in-law

"My mother-in-law spent six weeks in the rehabilitation programme after knee surgery. The physiotherapy was structured and the team clearly communicated with her surgeon. When we visited, she looked rested rather than stressed, which was what we had hoped for. She returned home with noticeably better mobility than we expected at six weeks."

Kanjana Phaiboon

Don Mueang, Niece

"My aunt has been a full-time resident for just under a year. The thing that stands out most is the food. She has always been particular about her meals, and the staff noted this early and made adjustments. She is better fed than she was at home, which is a statement I didn't expect to be able to make."

Weerachai Sombat

Bang Khen, Son

"We used the Day Programme as a way to see how my father adjusted before considering full-time care. The transition was handled well. Staff took time to introduce him to other participants and didn't rush the process. Four months later, he is still in the Day Programme and is in noticeably better spirits than before."

Margaret Johnson

Expat, Bangkok, Daughter

"As an expat family managing care from a distance, communication was our biggest concern. The team communicates in clear English, responds to messages within a day, and the written updates are genuinely informative. My mother's care plan reflects her specific preferences, not just a standard template."

Care Stories

A Closer Look at Three Journeys

With family permission, we share these accounts to help other families understand what residential care at Solace Grove can look like in practice.

Full-Time Residential Care

A Bangkok Family Navigating Long-Distance Care

The Situation

An elderly woman living alone in Bangkok after her husband's passing. Her adult children were based in Chiang Mai and Singapore, and while regular visits were possible, daily care was not. She needed consistent support, meals, and social contact without being placed in a hospital-style environment.

What We Did

Following an initial home visit and discussion with the family, she joined as a full-time residential resident. Her care plan was developed over the first two weeks as the team learned her preferences. Written updates were sent fortnightly to all family members in two cities.

Outcome

After 14 months as a resident, the family reports that she is noticeably more engaged and less isolated than she was living alone. She attends communal activities four days a week. The family's peace of mind, they say, has changed significantly.

Rehabilitation Stay

Recovery After Hip Replacement Surgery

The Situation

A retired civil servant, 74, undergoing planned hip replacement surgery at a Bangkok hospital. His family wanted structured physiotherapy and supervised recovery before he returned to a second-floor apartment without a lift. The hospital discharge team referred the family to Solace Grove.

What We Did

He joined the rehabilitation programme two days after hospital discharge. Daily physiotherapy began with weight-bearing exercises under the physiotherapist's guidance. Progress notes were shared with his surgeon. The stay was extended from four to six weeks at the team's recommendation.

Outcome

He returned home after six weeks with mobility described by his surgeon as at the better end of expected outcomes for his age group. His family noted that his confidence in using the hip had increased significantly by the final week compared to the first.

Day Programme

Social Engagement for an Isolated Older Adult

The Situation

A 78-year-old woman living with her working daughter in Don Mueang. She spent most weekdays alone at home, had withdrawn from social activity, and was showing signs of low mood. Her daughter was concerned about her wellbeing but could not reduce her working hours to provide more company.

What We Did

She joined the Day Programme three days a week initially, with transport arranged from her home area. The team introduced her gradually to group activities, starting with those she expressed interest in β€” craft workshops and shared lunches. Over six weeks, she began attending all five days.

Outcome

Her daughter reports a noticeable improvement in her mother's mood and engagement at home in the evenings. She now has regular social contact with a consistent group of people her own age, and speaks about her days at Solace Grove with enthusiasm β€” something her family had not heard for some years.
